The Kingdom of Lesotho is a monarchy founded some two hundred years ago by Moshoeshoe I. It attained independence from Great Britain on 4th. October, 1966. Head of State is King Letsie III and is governed by a democratically elected Government.
How to get to Lesotho
The easiest way to get to Lesotho is to fly to Johannesburg, South Africa from where there are daily connecting flights to Maseru International Airport.
There are also good road links between Johannesburg and Maseru and this journey takes approximately four hours.
Car hire is available in Johannesburg and Maseru.
The currency is Maloti (US$ 1 = M 13 .00). The South African Rand may also be used in Lesotho and is on a par with the Maloti. Foreign Exchange is freely available in Lesotho.
Sesotho and English are the two official languages of Lesotho.
